On Wednesday, October 28, 1936, Haywood Christopher Columbus Butler was born to the late Cora Cox Butler Lindsey and the late John Crowder. He was fortunate to have George Butler, Roosevelt Gatewood and Joe Lindsey as father figures in his life. He was called from labor to rest on, Tuesday, May 15, 2018 while a patient at Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Haywood worked as a carpenter and repaired and remodeled homes for many trusting clients. He was baptized into the body of Christ through the ministry and witness of Innis Street Church of Christ in Salisbury, NC.
Surviving are his children; Sid (Barbara) Butler of Bartonsville, PA, Ricky Little of Greensboro, NC, Haywood Butler of Wadesboro, NC, Maggie Butler of Thomasville, NC, Stevie (Gwendolyn) Butler of Hope Mills, NC, Deborah (Willie) Watts of Salisbury, NC, Randy Butler of the home, Esther (Larry) Sturdivant of Wadesboro, NC, Patricia Morgan~El of Greensboro, NC, Christopher Chavis of Greensboro, NC, Barbara Ann (Harvey) Lowery of Wadesboro, NC, Clifton Lee of Wadesboro, Phyllis Chambers of Monroe, NC, Regina (Wayne) Ingram of Wadesboro, NC; his brothers, Jake (Linda) Butler of Greensboro, NC and James Gatewood of Morven, NC; his sister-in-law, Daisy Crowder of Wadesboro, NC; special family members and friends, Mama Rose Dennison, Buck Cox, Catherine King, Cooter Duncan, Charles Cox, Herbert Caldwell, Sandra Lindsey, "Cowboy", Wayne, Larry Washington, Shocka Washington, Bobby Glenn Blakeny, Gary Lee Balkeny and Ervin Blakeny; 52 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children Cynthia Little, Hazel Butler, James Arthur Butler and Mario Washington; grandchildren, William Dockery and Macklyn Little; his brother and sister, Alphonso Crowder and Ernestine Ratliff. Funeral services will be 3:00pm Sunday in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from2:30pm until 3:00pm Sunday at the funeral home and a public viewing will be from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Saturday at the funeral home.
