WADESBORO - Mrs. Hazel Lee Walters, 81, of Wadesboro died Oct. 11th, 2015 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC.
Hazel was born in Ansonville on June 29, 1934 to Walter Herman and Sallie Allen Waddell Lee. After graduating from Polkton High School in 1952, she earned her RN degree from the school of nursing at Shelby Hospital and practiced nursing in Black Mountain, Washington D.C. and Nashville, TN.
Hazel married Thomas Martin (Tommy) Walters Jr. in 1957. She worked in the office of Dr. F.Y. Sorrell, and along with her husband, Tommy, operated The Anson Press in Wadesboro for 30 years. Hazel loved growing flowers and feeding her family and friends. Sweet tea with mint and lemon, pecan and coconut pies were mainstays on her table.
She is survived by her daughter Susan Walters Hallman and son-in-law Speed Hallman of Hillsborough; grandsons Jason Hallman of Lawrence, KS and Thomas Hallman of Chapel Hill; brother-in-law Bill (Elizabeth) Walters of Marshville; sister-in-law Eva (Ben) Bivens of Magnolia, TX; and nieces Sharon Latta of Wingate and LeAnne Searle of American Fork, UT.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 13th from 5:00 to 7:00PM at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro. The memorial service will be private.
The family expresses its appreciation to her caregivers at Anson Health and Rehabilitation Center in Wadesboro and the Hospice of Union County. Memorials may be made to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St., Oxford NC 27565.
