Mr. Henry Carpenter Martin, Jr., age 93, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at his home in the Brown Creek community.
Funeral services will be 3:00PM Sunday in Brown Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 1:30PM.
Mr. Martin was born in Anson County on August 13, 1924, a son of the late Henry Carpenter Martin and Daisy Flake Martin. He graduated local schools and was drafted into the US Army where he served in the Philippines immediately following the end of WWII. He returned home to continue working on the family farm and to start a family of his own. Mr. Martin was one of the first machinists hired when Duff-Norton Corp. expanded their operations to Wadesboro. He retired some twenty years later to enjoy both family and community life. A faithful member of Brown Creek Baptist Church for many years, Mr. Martin loved nothing more than to play his violin in church for special services.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Flora Burgess Martin of the home; two sons, John Martin of Newton, NC and Kenneth David Martin (Jan) of Marietta, GA; a daughter, Wanda M. Caruso (Fred) of Fayetteville; and seven grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Cromartie and Alyce Fagan.
