WADESBORO – On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, Mr. Hugh Lowder Parker, 92, passed away peacefully while enjoying time spent on the front porch of his home.
Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 15, 2023 by the graveside at Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery in Polkton.
The family will greet friends following the service.
Hugh was born May 3, 1930 in Mecklenburg County, NC and was a son of the late Isaac Sampson Parker and the late Bettie Lillie Lowder Parker. He was a graduate of Central High School in Charlotte and was a graduate of the first class from Charlotte College, which is now the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He also attended North Carolina State University, studying engineering.
He and his wife were long-time residents of Rock Hill, SC where he worked with Celanese for 35 years as a mechanical engineer. He and his family were active members of the Rock Hill community while they were there.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Craig Parker (Vicki) of Midlothian, VA, Gail Chapp (Robert) of Iron Station and Martin Parker (Tara) of Goose Creek, SC; his grandchildren, Ashley Thompson, Stephen Parker, Hannah Huitt, Kaitlen Todd, Gretchen Parker, Jesse Parker and Maggie Parker; his great-grandchildren, Joel Huitt and Roman Todd and his nieces and nephews and their families.
Hugh was an avid genealogist and spent many hours visiting cemeteries and court houses while doing family research. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening and especially enjoyed raising azaleas, rhododendrons, and lilies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Harrison Parker and his brothers, Jennings Parker, Alton Parker and Flake Parker.
Hugh’s family is most grateful to his care-giver Ivory Ingram, for all she has done during the time spent with him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Park Rd STE 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
