Wadesboro - Mr. James Richard 'Jim' Bruney, 83, died Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at Anson Health and Rehabilitation.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016, in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church, Wadesboro, conducted by Rev. Dr. Sarah B. Kalish.
Jim was born in Akron, OH on May 10, 1932, a son of the late William Edward and Anne McCown Bruney Jr. Upon his graduation from Buchtel High School in 1950, Jim entered the US Air Force and served four years. Upon his discharge from the military, Jim attended the University of Akron but entered the work force before being able to complete his degree. He had a long career with Duff-Norton, Inc. which brought Jim to Wadesboro, and from which he retired in 1996.
A longtime resident of Wadesboro, Jim was an active member of First United Methodist Church. He enthusiastically served as a volunteer in the Guardian ad Litem program for Anson County and his hobbies included gardening and fishing.
Jim was preceded in death by his brother, William 'Bill' Bruney.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Bruney of the home; three step-sons, Robert F. Stuart III (Leslie) of Decatur, GA, Scott C. Stuart (Dana) of Louisville, KY, and Geoffrey R. Stuart (Margaret) of Wilmington, NC; three grandchildren, Caroline Stuart of Wilmington, Gavin and Lachlan Stuart both of Decatur, GA; a niece and nephew, James L. Bruney of Gastonia and Jean Bruney (Steve Ovian) of Danville, CA; and grandnieces and grandnephews Josh, Rachel, and Ben Alford of Danville and Jonathan and Ashley Bruney of Gastonia.
The family wishes to express their grateful appreciation to the staff at Anson Health and Rehabilitation for their loving care and their efforts to make Jim's stay as comfortable as possible.
