Polkton - Mr. James Everett Dennis, 86, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at his home in the Burnsville Community. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Rex Burleson and Rev. Mark Swaringen officiating. Interment will follow in Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lilesville. The family will greet friends from 6:00 until 8:00PM Monday, February 1, 2016 at the funeral home and other times at the home. Everett was born Junes 16, 1929 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Harrison Richard H.R. Dennis and the late Pearl Estelle Rorie Dennis. He and his wife owned and operated Dennis Food Mart in the Burnsville Community for 30 years and he was also a farmer and a member of Olivet United Methodist Church. Surviving are his children, Julia Dennis Poplin and husband, Louis of Norwood, Walter Dennis and wife, Mary Anne of Allen, TX, Leslie Dennis and wife, Melissa of Polkton, Frank Dennis of McDonough, GA and Connie Dennis Russell and husband, Neal of Marshville; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Harding Dennis, Martha Goodwin and Wilma Dennis all of Lilesville, H.A. Dennis of Wadesboro and Lindbergh Dennis of LaFayette, TN and their families. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Redmon Dennis, granddaughter, Autumn Dennis and brother, Julian Dennis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001.
