Born in Rose Hill, NC, Jim was the only child of the late James Lee Griffin and Lois Salmon Griffin. He graduated from Lilesville High School and attended Brevard College on a baseball scholarship. Following his time at Brevard, Jim felt led to share his Christian faith with others and began selling Bibles and Bible Study books. His travels left him with a deep sense of how Gods hand had guided his life and also many wonderful stories that he frequently shared with others. It was on his travels that he met his beautiful wife, Betty. They married and moved to Charlotte where they have resided since. Jim was retired from the City of Charlotte with 33 years of service. He had a strong work ethic and took great pride and joy in the work he did.
Jim was a loving and faithful husband, devoted father, and proud "Pa-pa." He selflessly gave of his time and talents to his kids and grandkids and loved spending time with them by sharing words of wisdom about life and his faith. Jim always made sure that everyone felt welcome in his home and also that no one would ever go hungry! He cherished his life-long friends and cousins from childhood and developed everlasting friendships throughout lifes journey. Jim possessed a competitive spirit and had a passion for playing sports baseball, basketball, softball and golf. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, growing a garden and visiting the elderly in nursing homes. Jim was a dedicated member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. His laugh was contagious and his heart was always in the right place. Above all, his greatest mission was to share Christ and the importance of putting the Lord first in all we do. He will always be loved and never forgotten.
He is survived by his wife of over 49 years, Betty Seay Griffin; four children, James Lee Griffin, III (Debbie), Virginia Griffin Eads (Derrick), Rachel Griffin Koob (Steve), and Christal Lynne Green; and 10 grandchildren, Kimberly Griffin, Chela Green, W.
