James Andrew Hildreth

POLKTON - Mr. James Andrew Hildreth, 87, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Ambassador Health and Rehab in Wadesboro. Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Polkton Baptist Church with Rev. John Greene officiating. Interment will follow in Griffin Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home. Andrew was born July 5, 1929 in Union County, NC a son of the late John Columbus Hildreth and the late Anna Frances Sanders Hildreth. He was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation in the bridge department with 35 years of service. He was a faithful member of Polkton Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. Surviving are his wife of nearly 66 years, Leta Ann Helms Hildreth; his children, Annie Griffin of Wingate, Jimmy (Debra Kay) Hildreth of Polkton, Johnny (Cindy) Hildreth of Monroe and Debbie (Russell) Goodwin of Polkton; his grandchildren, Shane Griffin, Andy Griffin, Joe Hildreth, Jonathan Hildreth, Kristen Keller, Carrie James, and Robert Goodwin; 9 great-grandchilden; 1 great-great-grandchild and his brothers and sisters, J.T. Hildreth of Peachland, Dot Carpenter of Ansonville, Basel Hildreth of Pink Hill, Rachel Hancock of Havelock and Leonard Hildreth of Wadesboro; his step-sister, Jean Morris of Polkton and his faithful dog, Buddy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandsons, Jeffrey Hildreth and Jamie Hildreth and brothers and sisters, Frances Turner, Janie Sides, Warren Hildreth, Ed Hildreth and Brenda Vaughn. Andrew will be remembered as a loving and devoted, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was an avid Tarheel fan. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Ambassador Health and Rehab for the loving care they provided for Andrew and their family.
