James “Jim” Eugene Loveless Sr. passed away April 9th, 2025 at his residence in Lilesville, North Carolina after a battle with cancer.
He was born October 4, 1952, in Carter County TN. He was preceded in death by his parents David “Gene” Loveless and Addie M. Davis Loveless, his sisters Betty Loveless, Linda Loveless, Patsy(Loveless) Sparks, and Judy Loveless. Sister and brother in law, Barbara (Horace) Strickland, brother and sister in law Joe(Betty Jo) Loveless and brother Jack Loveless, also his beloved dogs, Killer, Rowdy, Angel, Rowdy Jr., Ebony, and Teddy Bear.
He is survived by his son James “Jayson” E. Loveless, Jr. Carter County, TN. A brother and sister in law Richard (Debbie) Loveless, Concord, NC. Sister Brenda Loveless Pike, Jonesborough, TN and Sister in Law Agatha (Taylor)Loveless, Peachland, NC and many nieces and nephews.
Jim recently moved back to Lilesville, NC from Bristol, TN where he built a cabinet making shop. He was the owner/operator of Anson Diesel Service for more than 30 years before retiring in 2016. He was a well-respected diesel mechanic, trusted in his field, enjoyed sharing knowledge of diesel trucks and heavy equipment and strived to take care of his customers.
Jim was proud of his service in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era with two of those years being stationed in West Germany, later receiving an Honorable Discharge.
Jim had a knack for making people laugh and was well known for telling tall tales and spinning a good yarn. His hobbies included woodworking, where he was equally as skilled as he was with diesel mechanics, watching movies and playing video games on his computer. He loved technology and gadgets from video games, computers, drones to cameras and telescopes. He fished for bass as often as he could investing in every gadget at the Bass Pro Shop in Bristol, VA. He took every opportunity to enjoy a good “medium well” filet mignon and tipped generously.
The family would like to extend a Special Thanks to Rodney and Dustin Morton for their love, care and friendship especially the last 2 years. Flint Ratliff for being the fishing buddy that took him three years to find. Rodney Ray for all the epic wild misadventures they had when they were younger men. Jerry and Deloris Burroughs. Deloris, whose tasty potato salad was his favorite. He enjoyed eating it and sharing with others.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be Rodney Morton, Dustin Morton, the Morton Trucking Crew, Flint Ratliff, Jake Ricketts, Zante Little and Rodney Ray.
A Military Service and Burial will be held at the V.A. Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, TN at a later date.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Cathedral Baptist Church from 12pm to 3pm on Saturday, May 3rd.
