POLKTON - Mr. James Ellis Lawhon, 70, died Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe.
Funeral services will be 3:00pm Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery in Ansonville.
The family will greet friends beginning at 2:00pm until time for the service and other times at the home.
Ellis was born June 14, 1944 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Huss J. and Elizabeth Ponds Lawhon. Following the death of his mother, he and his sister, Thelma were reared by Dallie and Leroy Tucker, who also preceded him in death.
He was the owner and operator of Lawhon's Pit Stop Convenience Stores in Wadesboro and was a veteran of the United States Marines, having served during the Vietnam War. He was awarded two Purple Hearts.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Kiker Lawhon; his children, Jamie (Robin) Lawhon, Kimberly (Chuck) Polson and John (Connie) Thomas all of Polkton; his grandchildren, Marissa Polson, Taylor Lawhon, Tabitha and Levi Thomas and Caleb Mayhall; his brother and sisters, Buster Lawhon and Mary Dean Myers both of Lilesville, Leigh Bouldin of Burlington and Thelma Hanna of Wadesboro; his mother-in-law, Frances Kiker of Polkton and his loving and faithful chihuahua, Patches.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110 or to Anson County Animal Shelter, 101 S. Greene St., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
