Mr. James A. 'Bud' Norris, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 while surrounded by his loving family. His family rejoices in knowing he is at peace and gave his son, James David the greatest birthday gift imaginable by joining him in heaven.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Lilesville Baptist Church with Rev. Teddy Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in Lilesville Cemetery.
The family will greet friends Friday, October 4, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro and other times at the home.
Bud was born May 15, 1928 in Pickens County, SC a son of the late James Vernon and Ellie Lane Norris. He was retired as a superintendent with highway and road construction.
He was a member of Lilesville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir and helped with the men's breakfasts. He had served on the Anson Crisis Ministry Board of Directors and Past Chairman and served as Mayor Pro Tem for the Town of Lilesville. His hobbies included crossword puzzles, watching Western movies, cooking, and owning his own photography studio.
He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Kilwinning Masonic Lodge and Oasis Shrine.
Surviving are his wife Mary Ward Allen Norris of the home; his children, John (Sue) Norris of Edenton, Connie N. (Travis) Williford of Fuquay-Varina, Mary Beverly A. (Ted) Hathcock of Matthews, Martha A. (Buddy) Goodwin of Lilesville and Suzanne A. (Wayne) LaBroad of Midland; his daughter-in-law, Cathy Norris of Roanoke Rapids; his sister, Connie N. (Roy) Elmore of Gaffney, SC; his grandchildren, Aubrey Jones, Morgan and Adam Williford, Jacqueline Norris, Candace Norris, Chasity (Jason) Hatchell, Dustin Wrenn, Chelsea Wrenn, Jeff Childs, Chris (Stephanie) Childress and Shawn (Steve) McStravich; his great-grandchildren, Justin Jones, Kaitlyn Jones, Kristi Hathcock, Jen Hopkins, Kendra Hopkins, Angela Childress, Cayleigh Hatchell, Wesley Hatchell and Landen Hatchell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jacqueline Brown Norris, his son James David Norris and by grandsons Alex and Eric Goodwin.
