VASS Mr. James Robert Plowman, 84, of Vass, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior, wife and other family members on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst after a brief illness. After giving his heart to God, he was ready to go walk the streets of gold, hand in hand with Jesus and his wife.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Friday, July 6, 2018 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home, Wadesboro. Interment will follow in Lilesville Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the funeral home.
James, better known to all his friends and family as Bob, was born in Albemarle, NC on May 31, 1934, a son of the late Brown and Martha Plowman. He was a life-long truck driver and drove for more than 30 years for Stegall Milling Company. He also owned and operated his own trucking company and following his retirement he drove a truck part-time for his son Bobby.
He married his first love, Alice, to whom he was married for 55 years. Bob and Alice were blessed with three sons, four daughters, eleven grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved with all his heart. He loved his friends and loved to joke and carry on with them, as well as, NASCAR racing, fishing and late night shopping while watching infomercials.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Hough Plowman; a son, James R. Plowman, Jr., a daughter, Lisa Plowman Mata and a brother, William B. Plowman.
He is survived by his brothers, Gary Plowman, Richard Plowman, Curtis Goodman and his sister, Doris P. Jacobs; his children, David L. Plowman (Holly) of Chesterfield, VA, Bobby D. Plowman of Carthage, NC, Edie M. Plowman (Jeff) of Concord, NC, Tammy E. Plowman of Myrtle Beach, SC and Allie P. Spivey (Jasper) of Carthage, NC; a special niece, Pam Stegall and special friends, Tommy and Kay Gulledge, Scott and Krystal Kiser and Elizabeth Lavoie.
