Mr. James Short son of the late James and Fannie McCormick Short was born in Anson County, NC on November 20, 1951. He answered the Master’s call from labor to reward on Sunday, September 15, 2024.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronald Short and Johnny Short.
James received his education through the Anson County School System. He joined the United States Marine Corps and later joined the United Sates Navy.
James was employed by various companies throughout his life, Wadesboro Nursing Home, Autmn Care, Home Health Agency, Walmart and Speedway. He also had his own lawn service. James was a jack of all trades, electrician, plumber, just to name a few. Whatever you needed James was always willing to help anyone in need.
On July 1, 2011, James married the love of his life, Juanita Ratliff Short.
He was a member of Elizabeth Pee Dee Missionary Baptist Church. He was a very active member, and he served as Sunday school superintendent and on the usher board.
Thow who are left to cherish his many fond memories are his wife, Juanita of the home; his children, Kristopher and Kandace Short both of the home; Trina Ellerbe (Tim), Jarvis Short, Rose Smith and Farrah Redfern all of Charlotte, NC; his brother and sisters, Willie Short (Beatrice) of Wadesboro, NC, Phyllis Ann Benstill of Spartanburg, SC, Delores Short of Charlotte, NC and Teresa Short (Tim) of Wadesboro, NC; his brothers-in-law, Booker Gibson of Hamlet, NC, Kevin Gibson (Shakita) of Rockingham, NC; his sisters-in-law, Mary, Wendy, Jacqueline, and Danita Gibson all of Hamlet, NC; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Kali Horne of the home; his aunts, Lucille Pratt and Ernestine Smith both of Wadesboro NC, Sarah Staton of Indian Orchard, MA, Linda McFadden of High Point, NC, Pauline McCormick of Columbia, SC and Rosa Short of Morven, NC; his uncles, Merritt Short (Yvonne) and Johnny Short; a special aunt and friend, Alberta Ratliff and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, September 20, 2024 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Elizabeth Pee Dee Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Lilesville.
Public viewing will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The family is meeting at the home in Lilesville.
