Mr. Jerry Kenneth McGrady, 79, died Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at his home in Lilesville, NC.
Due to public gathering restrictions issued by the State of North Carolina, funeral services will be private.
Jerry was born December 8, 1940, in Dillon, South Carolina, a son of the late Thomas and Mildred Lane McGrady. He faithfully attended Wadesboro Church of God where he joyfully served the Lord with his family.
After serving in the United States Marine Corps, Jerry began to establish his family in 1962. He worked many years in maintenance and could fix just about anything. Upon moving to Lilesville in 1981, he explored some new ventures. He sold Jefferson-Pilot insurance for a time and got to know many people in the community one on one. The next ten years of his life was helping to build memories with his family and neighbors by making delicious homemade hamburgers at the Lilesville Café. Finally, he returned to maintenance work and for the last 26 years was an employee of Hornwood, Inc., in Lilesville.
Jerry enjoyed life to the fullest. He began everyday by saying, “This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.” He proudly served his country with honor, courage and commitment as a United States Marine. He encouraged his co-workers with a contagious smile. He brought a competitive spirit to the golf course. He righteously led his family to Christ and hearing him pray would melt the hardest of hearts. Time with his family was always treasured, especially Sunday lunches which were filled with funny stories, jokes and laughter. His favorite pastime was vacationing at the beach but for his family, vacations will never be the same without him.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jennie H. McGrady of the home; four children, Kevin McGrady of Wadesboro, Jeffrey McGrady and Kelly McGrady both of Lilesville, and Jennifer Lee (Darrell) of Ansonville; five grandchildren, Brittany McGrady, Joshua McGrady, LCpl Justin Lee, Katherine Lee and Wesley Lee.
