As a courtesy to the family of Preacher Jerry Phillips, we have shared his obituary. Preacher Jerry Phillips, 71, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 16, 2018 at McLeod Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Mullins, SC, Jerry was the son of Everette and Vera Cannon Phillips. He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He was a member of Green Sea Baptist Church. In his ministry he had the privilege of pastoring Southside Baptist Church in Wadesboro, NC, Hamer Creek Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead, NC, Wade Baptist Church in Wadesboro, NC, Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Conway, SC, and Green Sea Baptist Church in Green Sea, SC. He also served as interim pastor at Hinson Crossroads Baptist Church in Fair Bluff, NC, and New Life Baptist Church in Tabor City, NC. Additionally, he served as Chaplain at Daddy Joe's Campground in Tabor City, NC, the Anson County Sheriff's Office and the Horry County Police Department. He was very involved in his local high school football teams and was a Fire Rescue volunteer in Anson County, NC. Rev. Phillips was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife of 45 years Daphene Phillips; his son, Josh Phillips (Tracy) of Albemarle, NC; his daughter, Heather Howard (Jay) of Conway, SC; his grandchildren, Will, Jaxon and Lawson; his brother Terry Phillips of Nichols, SC; his sisters, Toni Phillips of Little River, SC and Marilyn Allen (Leamon) of Loris, SC; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Green Sea Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Josh Phillips, Rev. James Herring, Rev. Jonathan Barbee, and Rev. Willie Walters. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Green Sea Baptist Church from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to Green Sea Baptist Church, 1241 Green Sea Road, Green Sea, SC, 29545.
