WADESBORO - Mr. Jesse Clayton Burr, Sr., 80, a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, died peacefully Monday, August 24, 2015 at his home.
Funeral services will be 3:00pm Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Ansonville United Methodist Church with his son, Rev. Robert Burr and Rev. Betsy Herron officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Jesse was born October 9, 1934 in Ansonville, NC a son of the late Nelson Lee Burr and Elizabeth White Burr. He was retired from Wade Manufacturing Company. He was a 1954 graduate of Wadesboro High School where he played football for the Wadesboro Tigers.
He was a devoted and long-time member of Salem United Methodist Church until the conference chose to close the doors of Salem and he then became a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He had served the church in all capacities other than serving as Pastor, although he was a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Betty Speight Burr of the home; his children, Jesse (Michelle) Burr, Jr. of Fresno, CA, Robert (Kimberly) Burr, Sr. of Ansonville, David (Sandra) Burr of New Salem and Monica Farah of Weddington; his sister, Elizabeth Burr of Wadesboro; his grandchildren, Jesse (Kimberly) Burr, III of Seven Lakes, Jennifer Tucker of Monroe, Ashley Burr of Wadesboro, Rachel Burr of Marshville, Whitney Alvarez, Caleigh Hensley, Josh Hensley all of Fresno and Dale (Kim) Burr all of Fresno, CA, Jonathan Burr of Morven, Elizabeth (Tim) Brown of Hope Mills, Stacey (Joel) Cunningham of San Antonio, TX, Daniel (Sara) Burr of Davenport, IA, Micheal (Kate) Burr of Marshville, Debra Burr of Monroe, Cyndi (Brandon) Newton of Lilesville, John Luke Farah, Alayna Farah, Peter Farah and Marc Farah all of Weddington and 20 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Linda Gorman Burr, brothers and sisters, Paul, Jack, Lee Willie B., John and Ruby Burr and Berta Isenberg.
He will be remembered as being a faithful provider for his family and rearing them in a household of great faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
