Jilla Dennis Gathings

           WADESBORO – On Monday, September 4, 2023, Mrs. Jilla Dennis Gathings, 66, passed away peacefully at Atrium Health Pineville with her family gathered by her bedside.

            Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Friday, September 8, 2023, at Deep Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Perko officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery,

            The family will greet friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.

            Jilla was born July 11, 1957, in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Harding Richard Dennis and the late Sarah Christine Morrison Dennis. She was a graduate of Bowman High School.

            She had a long career in healthcare, having worked with Dr. Ertugrul in Wadesboro, Anson County Hospice and Anson Community Hospital. She retired from the Town of Wadesboro as accounts payable clerk.

            Jilla was a life-long member of Olivet United Methodist Church and attended Deep Creek Baptist Church.

            Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 40 years, Billy Gathings; her sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew and Kristi Dennis of Winston-Salem, Brian and Susan Gathings of Peachland and Kevin and Pam Gathings of Ansonville; her grandchildren, Kori Dennis, Kerrigan Dennis, Casey Lear and husband, Tyler, Kayla Gathings, Ashley Gathings, Will Gathings, Tyler Gathings and Seth Gathings; her great-grandson, Liam Usrey; her brothers and sister, Ricky Dennis and wife, Pat of Charlotte, Ben Dennis of Jacksonville, FL and Cherri Dudley and husband, Kevin of Fuquay Varina and their families.

            She also leaves behind the Gathings family, her mother-in-law, Faye Gathings of Wadesboro; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Patty Ratliff and husband, Anthony, Peggy Hooks and husband, Billy, Danny Gathings and wife, Ellen and Tammy Timmons all of Wadesboro and their families.

            Jilla dearly loved her family. She was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. She could light up a room when her grandchildren arrived for a visit.

            She was an excellent cook and was known for making a delicious pound cake, peanut butter delight, pimento cheese and country style steak and gravy. Always smiling and laughing, she could make anyone feel special.

            In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Deep Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 1280 Beck Rd., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
