WADESBORO – On Wednesday, August 18, 2021, Mrs. Joan Baker Short, 80, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend went to be with her Lord and Savior. She was a long time resident of Petersburg, VA.
There will be a graveside service at 1:00pm Monday, August 23, 2021, at Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends following the service.
Joan was born December 1, 1940, in Lancaster County, SC and was a daughter of the late J. Coyt Baker and the late Lavenia Taylor Usrey Thompson and the late Henry Wade “Bud” Usrey.
She was a graduate of Wadesboro High School and was a licensed cosmetologist with more than 40 years of service.
Surviving are her children, Pam Camacho and husband, David of Lake Gaston, Lynn Woebke and husband, Parker of Rolesville, and William F. “Boogie” Short, III of Laurinburg ;her grandchildren, Kate Moore and husband, Ben of Holly Springs, Kris Camacho of Wake Forest, Rilynn Short and Lara Short both of Ruby, SC; her great-grandchild, Sailor Moore of Holly Springs; her brothers and sister, Buddy Usrey and wife, Mary Ann of Kernersville, Mike Usrey and wife, Nancy of Rockingham and Lou McCollum and husband, Joe of Locust; her nieces and nephews and their families. Patricia Aguilar Maldonado and family from Guayaquil, Ecuador who was an exchange student who lived with Joan and her family who still calls her mom.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Daryl Usrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan Colony, 136 Samaritan Dr., Rockingham, NC 28379.
