Mr. Joel Audrey Leonard, 83, died Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Anson Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be 3:00pm Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Long Pine United Methodist Church with Rev. Stephen Shytle officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends tonight (Monday) from 7:00pm until 8:30pm at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter.
Audrey was born January 11, 1928 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Joel Frank and Daisy Marze Leonard. He was a life-long member of Long Pine United Methodist Church, a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict and was retired from Hornwood in Lilesville with more than 39 years of service.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Marjorie Mathis Leonard; his children, Wayne (Teresa) Leonard of Hillsborough and Dianne Dawkins of Wadesboro; his sister, Clarice Lowery of Rockwell; his grandchildren, Alisha and Tiffany Dawkins and Joel and Davis Leonard; and his 6 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude first to Dr. Elena Sutton for her wonderful care and diagnosis of Audrey's cancer, along with Dr. Gregory Brouse and staff, Dr. Thomas Troutman and staff, Anson Community Hospital and staff and Jessie Helms Nursing Center, both Physical and Occupational Therapy Departments for the excellent care and services given to both Audrey and his family.
