John Richard Allen

LILESVILLE – On Saturday, May 1, 2021, Mr. John Richard Allen, 75, passed away peacefully with his family at his side. Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Forestville United Methodist Church with Rev. Sybil Perrell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. John Richard will lie in repose at his home in Lilesville from 4:00pm Sunday, May 2, 2021 until Tuesday morning prior to the service and friends may visit the home at any time during these days. The family will also greet friends following the service on Tuesday at the church. John Richard was born August 27, 1945 in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late Flake Shellam Allen and the late Alice Christine Beeman Allen. He was a 1963 graduate of Wadesboro High School and served briefly in the United States Navy. He worked for 25 years with Catawba Timber Company and later retired from B.V. Hedrick Sand and Gravel in Lilesville. He was a faithful and long-time member of Forestville United Methodist Church. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jeffrey Dean Allen and spouse, Brad Harris of Rock Hill, SC and Emily Allen Privette and spouse, Kelley Lybrand of Troutman; his grandson, Samuel Privette of Troutman; his fiancé, Diana Nelson of Sunset Beach; his brothers, Dr. Robert S. Allen and wife, Barbara of N. Myrtle Beach, SC and Parks Allen of Statesville; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Allen of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, Barbara S. Taylor of Waynesboro, PA, Bruce Taylor and wife, Deborah of Lilesville and Carol T. Norton and husband, Mike of Hamlet and his loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Taylor Allen and his brother, David Allen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forestville United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Joanne Clark 1781 Clark Mountain Rd., Lilesville, NC 28091. John Richard’s family has requested for those attending the service Tuesday to leave your “funeral clothes” in the closet and dress colorful and casual in celebration of his life.
