            POLKTON – On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, Mr. John Franklin Hough, 81, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord with his family gathered by his bedside at Wadesboro Health and Rehab.

 

            Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Swaringen officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

 

            The family will greet friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, June 23, 2023, at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro.

 

            John was born September 18, 1941, in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late E.D. Hough and the late Allie Cleo Ricketts Hough. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. He worked for nearly 25 years with B.V. Hedrick Sand and Gravel, retiring from their Piedmont Sand Division in Pageland, SC.

 

            He attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church with his family. He was an active member and supporter of Burnsville Fire Department and was an avid vegetable gardener, hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed riding his golf cart.

 

            A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years, Martha Edwards Hough; his daughters, Jennifer Ricketts of Wadesboro and Marie O’Neill and husband, Don of Monroe; his grandchildren, Jonathan Ricketts of Hampton, VA, Trevin Ricketts and wife, Victoria of Waxhaw, Travis Curran and Miranda Curran both of Polkton and Michael O’Neill of Monroe and his great-grandchildren, Stephen Ricketts and Faye Ricketts both of Wadesboro.

 

            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, James, Roy Lee and Edward Hough and Alice Plowman.

 

            John’s family is most grateful for the love and support shown by the staff of Wadesboro Health and Rehab, Cedar Grove Church Family, Burnsville Fire Department and Anson Community Hospice.

 

            In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Grove Baptist Church, 130 Cedar Grove Church Rd., Polkton, NC 28135 or Burnsville Fire Department 13380 NC-742, Polkton, NC 28135 or Wadesboro Health and Rehab, Family Council, 2051 Country Club Rd., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
