China Grove - Mr. John Wesley Sikes, 78, formerly of Polkton, died Friday at his home in China Grove.
Funeral services will be 4:00PM Wednesday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Swaringen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends in the church one hour prior to the service.
John was born in Anson County on September 3, 1936, a son of the late Erie and Gladys Johnson Sikes. He had worked in the auto parts business and also many years as a truck dispatcher.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila; a son, Alan Sikes of Baton Rouge, LA; and a sister, Elizabeth Schwirck of Matthews.
John was most generous with his time, giving of himself to his family and friends - especially his son, Alan. Always surrounded by a circle of friends from his youth to his very last days, John loved a good laugh and a good story. An avid reader with a sharp and inquisitive mind, he never turned down a good-natured debate with anyone willing to engage.
One of John's favorite ways to express his affection for loved ones was to say 'love you good.' Now we say, 'John, you will be forever missed but we will always 'love you good.''
