Wadesboro Mr. John Henry Wallace, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2018, while a patient at Lake Park Nursing & Rehab.
Funeral services will be 3:00PM Sunday in Mt. Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Kinney Wallace and Rev. Randy Storz officiating. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
Johnny was born in Chesterfield County, SC, on July 1, 1930, a son of the late William Thomas and Rosella Brock Wallace. He served honorably in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War and returned home to marry his true love, Rose Horne Wallace in 1953. During his working career, Johnny held several jobs but he will best be remembered as an owner and operator of the Welika Lake Fish Camp. He was also a longtime member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church.
Johnny had many hobbies but gardening, hunting and fishing were no doubt his favorites. He enjoyed sharing the fruits of his gardening labors with neighbors and friends alike. He also loved both fresh and saltwater fishing perhaps in part because his wife, Rose, enjoyed fishing with him. Johnny also had a knack for fixing most anything that was broken and the family is proud to report that his grandson, John, inherited this same gift from his beloved grandfather.
Survivors include a daughter that he fiercely loved, Tanja W. Huntley (Vann) of Monroe; his grandson, John Huntley of Monroe of whom he was so proud; his only surviving brother, Charles Wallace of Wadesboro; one special nephew, Mike Sessions who was his telephone buddy; and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by four brothers, Plase, Lee, Hampton and Bobby Wallace; and three sisters, Nancy Teal, Carolyn Wuerpal, and Peggy Trexler.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, 3373 Country Club Rd., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
