WADESBORO – On Thursday, January 23, 2025, Mr. Joseph Clement Burr, 92, passed away peacefully at Atrium Health Anson in Wadesboro.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 30, 2025, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Stacey Lundy officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
Joe was born October 6, 1932, in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late James Clement “J.C.” Burr and the late Hattie Grace Watts Burr. He was a graduate of Deep Creek High School which had 12 students in the class, and he was valedictorian, and he attended Wingate College.
He was drafted into military service during the Korean Conflict and served 2 years with the United States Army.
Joe had a long and successful career in textiles, having worked with Wade Manufacturing for 42 years as purchasing agent.
He grew up as a member of Camden Presbyterian Church and later moved his membership to First United Methodist Church in Wadesboro.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Ella Sue Mangum Burr; his children, Susan Shackleford and husband, Larry of Mint Hill, Joe Burr, Jr. and wife, Lanne of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, Robert “Bobby” Burr and wife Lynn of Little River, SC and Richard Burr and wife, Morgan of Locust; his grandchildren, Adam Talbert and Drew Talbert both of Kannapolis, Tiffany Black of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, Josh Burr of Oregon, Sarah Burr of Little River, SC, Ashton Davis and husband, Logan of Alexandria, VA and Austin Burr and wife, Erika of Locust; his 14 great-grandchildren and his sisters-in-law, Wilhelmina “Boots” Whitehurst of Charlotte and Donna Burr of Wadesboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Burr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 118 E. Morgan St., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
