Eventually he found employment with Anson Community College, which later became South Piedmont, where he retired with 30 years of combined service to the local community college system.
Joe was a lifetime member of Polkton United Methodist Church. He was an avid baseball fan having attended a ballgame in over half of the Major League Baseball parks in the country. He never outgrew his farming roots nor did he ever grow tired of working on the farm. Joe also enjoyed the challenge of a good project, his latest being that of restoring a 1971 Ford Bronco.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie Cameron of the home; three children, Fran Cameron and Joanne Cameron both of Raleigh, Jessy Brinson (Matt) of Polkton; three grandchildren, Gemmalynn Brinson, Joe Tate Brinson, and Amy Frances Cameron.
Also surviving is his brother, Jim Cameron (Cheryl) of Oakboro; and his sister, Martha Rivers (Bill) of Polkton. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy C. Fisher.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital for the wonderful love and care shown to Joe during these last days.
