LILESVILLE Mrs. Joyce Thomas Dennis, 78, died Sunday, July 29, 2018 at her home Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday, August 3, 2018 at Olivet United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery The family will greet friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Leavitt Funeral Home. Joyce was born March 10, 1940 in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late Clarence Thomas and the late Wilma Taylor Thomas. She was a graduate of Burnsville High School and earned an Associates of Arts Degree from South Piedmont Community College. She had a very strong work ethic, having worked at Gilead Manufacturing, Dawson Knitting, South Piedmont Community College and at the time of her death she was working as an Administrative Assistant at Lanesboro Correctional Institution. Joyce was a very active member of Olivet United Methodist Church, where she has served as a Sunday school teacher, worked with Vacation Bible School and the United Methodist Women. Surviving are her daughter, Kathy Dennis Cochran and husband, David of Greenville; her grandsons, Toby Cochran and wife, Christa and Mason Cochran and wife, Maggie; her great-grandchildren, MiaGrace and McCray Cochran; and her brother and sisters, Nelson Thomas and Myra Dalgliesh both of Polkton and Ollie Mae Long of Wingate. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Dennis, her daughter, Julia Ann Dennis and her sisters and brother, Louise Hildreth, Deanna Mullis and Robert Thomas In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Olivet United Methodist Church, c/o, Mrs. Martha D.
