Mrs. Joyce "Joy" Caraway Hildreth of Rose Terrace in Wadesboro, NC, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017. Mrs. Hildreth was born in Anson County on August 2, 1926, daughter of the late Phil and Mabel Caraway. She graduated from Wadesboro High School and matriculated to Womens College, now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She completed her education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Joy was married to her loving husband, James Herbert "Herb" Hildreth in 1949. They had celebrated a long and rewarding marriage of over sixty years when he died in 2011. Joy and Herb were blessed with four loving children. These include Mr. Jim Hildreth of Charlotte, Miss Leigh Hildreth of Lilesville, Miss Cara Hildreth of Wadesboro, and Mr. David Hildreth of Summerfield, NC. David is married to Elizabeth Gardner Hildreth and they have given Joy two precious grandsons, Sam Hildreth of Appalachian State University, and Alec Hildreth of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Wadesboro on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 1:00PM, conducted by Ken Goins, Commissioned Ruling Elder of Charlotte Presbytery. Visitation will also be held on Friday from 11:00AM until 12:00 Noon at Leavitt Funeral Home. Pallbearers include Mr. Marion Ratliff, Mr. Gene Shepherd, Mr. John Ballard, Mr. Robert Colf, Mr. Marshall Ray and Mr. Palmer Sineath. Mr. Ricky Ratliffe and Mr. Jimmy Shepherd are honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Hildreth was preceded in death by her husband, Herb; her parents, Phil and Mabel Caraway; her sisters, Dr. Hermine Caraway and Mrs. Corneille (William) Sineath. However, she enjoyed a special relationship with the Sineath children, her nephew and nieces, Palmer, Sherrill, Sally and Gail.
Joy was proud of her family, loved her church (First Presbyterian), having sung in the choir for many years, and loved the garden and flowers. She was also an avid sports fan and readily told of Sam and Alecs accomplishments and activities.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dean K. Young Memorial Garden of First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 351, Wadesboro, NC 28170. This will honor her longstanding commitment to the garden, to her love of flowers, and to her love of the church.
