Wadesboro - Mrs. Joyce Ratliffe Liles, age 72, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Carolinas Medical Center Union in Monroe.
A service to celebrate Joyces life will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, June 3, at Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends before the service beginning at 2:00PM.
Born in Rowan County on January 26, 1945, Joyce was the oldest of three children born to Carl Covington and Elizabeth Lib Hildreth Ratliffe. She graduated Wadesboro High School and attended Appalachian State before embarking on a 40+ year career as an accountant and bookkeeper with the department store, B.C. Moore & Sons. More recently, Joyce worked for the Hampton B. Allen Library, something she considered an important and valuable labor of love for the community.
Joyce was a longtime member of Camden Presbyterian Church where she faithfully served as the choir director and organist for more than 50 years doing everything she could for an aging and much loved church membership. She also served in the Wadesboro Lions Club, always willing to work on any project that she thought would improve the lives of those in our community.
Joyces survivors include two brothers and many nieces and nephews. The first brother is Rick Ratliffe of Florence, SC and daughter, Amy (Corbett) Stone and their children, Elizabeth Stone Timmons, Christian Stone, Collin Stone, and Carson Stone; and daughter, April (Troy) Huey and their children, Avery Huey, Tatum Huey, and Reese Huey; a son Blake Ratliffe and his son Liam Brand; and daughter Brittany Ratliffe. The second brother is Ronnie (Sherry) Ratliffe of Southport, NC and daughter, Carrie (Brent) Herstine and her children, Bogan Herstine and Henry Herstine; and daughter Nicole (Matthew) Sheetz and their children, Sadie Sheetz and Sawyer Sheetz. Joyce nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews were the love and light of her life.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmy Liles in 2005.
