WADESBORO – Mr. Julian Benjamin Garris, 89, died Friday, January 24, 2020 at Anson Health and Rehab in Wadesboro.
Funeral services will be 12:00pm Tuesday, January 28, 2020 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Dr. Robert L. Hunter, Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Julian was born January 14, 1931 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Charles Brown Garris and the late Elizabeth Russell Garris. He worked for many years with Eckerd Drugs and later worked with Family Dollar, retiring as store manager.
He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro and was a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church in early years. He and his wife worked on several mission trips including, Alaska, Mexico, Waterbury, CT and Disaster Relief in Orlando, FL.
Surviving are his wife, Dolores Benge Garris; his children, Teresa Wilson (William) of Newton Grove, Michael Garris (Malina) of Charleston, SC, Jerry Garris (Barb) of Ft. Mill, SC, Trudy Green (Randy) of Charlotte, Crystal Smith and Wanda Brandenburg (James) both of Wadesboro and Steven Hatley (Ashley) of Oakboro; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Margaret Tucker (Basil) of High Point and Eunice Jordan of Lilesville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Julian Benjamin “Benji” Garris, Jr., a grandson, Carson Garris and brothers and sisters, William Garris, Charles Garris, Etta Stafford, Pauline Davis, Clara Sellers, Sarah Phipps and Mae Thompson.
