Wadesboro - Mr. George Kevin McKenzie, 62, died Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at his home.
The family will greet friends from 2:00pm until 3:00pm Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Leavitt Funeral Home with a graveside service following at 3:30pm in Peachland Cemetery. The Reverend Michael Bye will officiate.
Kevin was born November 24, 1954 in Union County, NC a son of the late George Edward McKenzie and the late Jewel Mae Vaughn McKenzie. He was a graduate of Bowman High School and received a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services from Wingate University. He worked for 30 years as a Juvenile Court Counselor for both Anson and Richmond Counties. He also worked for a number of years for J.B. Video in Wadesboro and eventually became co-owner of Hometown Video in Wadesboro.
Kevin was most proud of his recovery from alcoholism and was very active in Alcoholic's Anonymous in Wadesboro and he helped many people who struggled with addiction to begin the steps to recovery.
Surviving are his children, Reese Cripe of Summerville, SC, Ben McKenzie and fiance', Katie and Emily McKenzie all of Sumter, SC; he was a loving Poppy to his granddaughters, Haelyn and Josie Cripe of Summerville, SC; his sister, Ann Frank of Hickory; also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Melba McKenzie of Polkton and Martha McKenzie of Peachland and his nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Tommy and Jimmy and sister, Elsie.
