POLKTON - On Sunday, November 19, 2023, Mr. Larry Michael Carpenter, 75, passed away peacefully at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe.
Larry was born December 24, 1947, in Anson County, NC, and was a son of the late Joseph Paul Carpenter and the late Mary Helen Winfield Carpenter. He was a 1966 graduate of Anson High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. While serving in the Army, he was a member of the Honor Guard and was a part of the inauguration of President Gerald Ford.
He worked with the United States Postal Service in Charlotte, retiring with 35-plus years of service.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Dawn Hensley Carpenter; his brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Paulette Carpenter of Summerville, SC; his niece who was more like a daughter to him, Sonya (Tim) Owens of Lake Norman and his nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister, Ed Carpenter and Sue Kendall.
Larry loved time spent outdoors mowing, gardening, and riding his tractor or four-wheeler. He was extremely helpful and dependable. Above all, he was a devoted son, husband, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
The family is most grateful to Hospice of Union County for the way in which they cared for him in the past weeks.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
A graveside service with military honors will be 1:00 PM Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Brown Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
