Lena Diggs Barber

LILESVILLE - Mrs. Lena Diggs Barber, 77, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Thursday, June 1, 2017 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Knotts officiating. Interment will follow in Lilesville Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Lena was born on March 3, 1940 in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late James Edward Diggs and the late Estelle Knotts Diggs. She was retired from Alltel Communications with more than 40 years of service. Surviving are her children; Gwen (Ronnie) Traywick of Marshville; Kathy (Phil) Burr of Norwood, Debora (Rae) Carpenter of Ansonville and Terry Barber of Wadesboro; her grandchildren, Adam Traywick of Marshville, Amanda Traywick of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jeremy (Lori) Burr of Wadeboro, Justin Burr of Norwood and Jarret Burr of Raleigh and her nephew and nieces and their families. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Son Barber and her sisters and brothers, Sadie Mayse, Thelma, Willie, John and Bland Diggs. Lena enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, baking cakes, trips to the beach and maintaining a well-manicured yard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
