Leon Bennett Waddell

Wadesboro - Mr. Leon Bennett Waddell, 87, died peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at his home. Funeral services will be 3:00PM Saturday in Brown Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00PM. Leon was born in Anson County on November 21, 1928, a son of the late John Addison and Ruth Lee Waddell. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII and was retired from the AT&T telephone company. Survivors include his wife, Joan of the home; his children, Jim Waddell (Jodi) and Catherine W. Bohlin (Bob); 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 step-children, Stephen Venator, Sherry V. Conley (Everett), and Scott Venator; 3 step grandchildren; and 3 step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Rachel W. Bunn (Barry), Sara W. Johnson, and Rose Adams. In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by a son, Tony Waddell; step-son, Rick Venator; brother, John Waddell; and two sisters, Judy W. Huntley and Betty W. Bennett.
