We are sharing the obituary of Libby Deese Evans as a courtesy to the Deese family who have been long-time residents of Anson County.
Winnie Elizabeth “Libby” Evans passed on to eternal life on Friday, April 5, 2024, at a hospital in Patiala, India, with her husband and son present. She was a loving wife and mother who was the backbone of her family.
Libby was born on February 1, 1954 in Anson County, North Carolina. One of eight children to Abner and Annie Deese, she attended and graduated from Wadesboro High School in 1972. In 1973 she pursued further education at Brevard College and then moved on to UNC Greensboro where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1976. Upon graduation, she was hired as a claims trainee with Aetna Life and Casualty. This began her long career as an insurance and risk management professional, which was a great source of fulfillment to her. She went on to earn numerous professional designations and awards in her field. She met her husband Tom in 1984, and then in 1986, she took time out of her career for 6 years to have her only child, Brandon. They lived happily for 17 years in Wilmington, NC where Libby enjoyed going to the beach and taking her son to see live music and theater. In 2010, Libby moved to The Woodlands, TX to pursue the next stage of her professional career with Crawford & Company.
Libby was a lifelong learner: in addition to studying business and insurance over the course of her career, she had a passion for studying French language and listening to classical music. She had begun to study Hindi in the last year of her life in preparation for visiting India with her son. Her kindness, generosity, and tenacious optimism will be remembered dearly by her family and all those who knew her.
She is survived by siblings and siblings-in-law Abner Deese, Jr. of Alabama, Carlton and Donna Deese of Wadesboro, NC Abbie McKenzie of Lexington, SC, and Jewel Deese of Rockingham NC. Preceding her in death were her brother William Mike Deese, sister Sara Ann Powell, and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Abner Deese Sr.
