PEACHLAND - On Thursday, August 17, 2023, Mr. Lonnie Lee Thompson, 71, passed away peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father.
There will be a memorial service at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Peachland Baptist Church with Rev. Jerome Cash officiating.
The family will greet friends following the service at the church.
Lonnie was born on August 4, 1952, in Saginaw, MI and was the son of the late Leonard Solon and Lucille Elrod Thompson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sabrina Mullis. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Vietnam War. He was an accomplished carpenter and cabinet builder.
He was an active member of Peachland Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
He had a huge heart and although worldly possessions meant very little to him, he would give all he had to help someone in need. He never met a stranger and enjoyed many conversations with his family and friends.
Lonnie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, and believed in all things family. He loved spending time with them and celebrating all their accomplishments and activities. Among his favorite pastimes with his grandchildren included camping, fishing and attending their sporting events.
He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Gore Thompson; his daughter April Hoover (Mark) of Monroe and son-in-law Randy Mullis of Peachland; his grandchildren, Michael Bishop (Becca) of Surfside Beach, SC, Makayla Bishop of Monroe, Nathan Fulks and Callie Thompson both of Peachland; his brothers, Eugene Thompson (Sue) of Moore, OK, Larry Thompson (Jan) of Jacksonville, FL and sister Lawanda Wilson (Garry) of Monterey, TN; his mother-in-law, Janis Gore of Crossville, TN; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda Bennett and Kevin Gore both of Crossville, TN and his nieces and nephews and their families.
Lonnie’s family is most grateful to the wonderful and caring staff of Hospice of Union County for all they have done for him.
