Morven - Louise Williams Diggs, 89 of Morven, NC, died early Sunday morning, April 16, 2017 at Pruitt Health-Union Pointe in Monroe, NC after several weeks of declining health. Louise was married to the late James Haywood Diggs and is survived by a brother-in-law, Roland Eller of Lexington, N.C., and a number of nieces and nephews. Born May 6, 1927 in the Grace Chapel Community of Granite Falls, NC, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Pinkney and Flossie Catherine Starnes Williams of Granite Falls, Caldwell County, NC. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her siblings Cecil Otis Williams, Mae Williams Logan, Charles Henry Williams, Sue Williams White, Paul Dewey Williams, James Marvin Williams, and Kathleen Williams Eller. She was educated in the Granite Falls schools where she was an honor student, the Class Poet, and the May Queen of the Granite Falls High School Class of 1944. In 1946 she married her beloved husband of 70 years, James Haywood Diggs, of Cairo and Morven, Anson County, N.C. In 1947 she began work for the Federal Government as a Medical Secretary for the Atlanta Army Services Depot in Atlanta (Conley, GA.) later transferring to the War Assets Administration in Charlotte, N. C. until its deactivation in 1948. She and her husband then returned to his home in Cairo, later moving into their home on East Main Street in Morven. She began work in the Corporate Office of W.R. Bonsal Company, Lilesville, N.C. in 1950 as Executive Assistant and remained for 35 years. She was a loving and devoted wife, a sweet sister and loving aunt. Her family and loved ones will remember her warm smile and gentle spirit and her genuine love of others. Louise served her church and community well upon retirement. She worked as a Hospital and Red Cross Volunteer. She has remained an active member of Morven United Methodist Church. As a member of the Morven Womens Community Organization, she was a driving force for community celebrations, beginning with the Morven Centennial Celebration. A memorial Service will be held at 11am Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the Morven United Methodist Church with Rev. Davi Trotti officiating, followed by a reception in the church parish hall. Private graveside services will be held at the Morven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Morven United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 302, Morven, NC 28119 or Morven Cemetery, P.O.
