LILESVILLE - Mrs. Lucile Meredith Streater, 94, died peacefully Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Ambassador Rehabilitation and Health Care in Wadesboro. Services will be held at 1:30PM Sunday, October 2, 2016 by the graveside in Savannah United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Kaye Fry officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Lucile was born January 10, 1922 in Richmond, VA the daughter of the late Clement Orestes Meredith and Angelina Wood Meredith. She earned a Bachelors Degree from Western Carolina and later a Masters of Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an emphasis in mathematics. Lucile had a diverse professional life, beginning with training at Charlotte Presbyterian Hospital for the Nurse Corp during WWII. After marriage, she became a teacher In Lilesville with the Anson County School system and later worked in computer data and research for Westinghouse in Pittsburg, PA. She made her final career as a cattle farmer in Lilesville She was very civic minded, enjoying serving on the Anson County Board of Education in the late 1960s, participating in the collecting of the census in the 1970s and tutoring children in math well into her 80s. Lucile once starred as Amanda in the Ansonia Theatres production of Tenessee Williams The Glass Menagerie. She was a long time member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, a sorority for retired teachers and was a member of the Anson County Cattlemens Association. Lucile was a devoted member of the Lilesville United Methodist Church where she served as organist and pianist for many years, as well as, church treasurer. Surviving are her daughter, Carol Anne Ingram; her step-daughters, Dawn Streater (David) Burtt and Debby Streater (Jack) Wheeler; her beloved sisters-in-law, Margaret Ingram Bailey and Mildred Meredith; the Streater grandchildren; her lifelong friend, Jo Summers and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, William L. Ingram, Jr., James R. Clark and Jasper Paul Streater; children, Nancy Jane Ingram and Charles Nelms Ingram; brothers, Edward C. Meredith, Clarence W. Owen Meredith, Horace W. Meredith and David L. Meredith and step-children, Johnny Ingram Streater, Darlene Grace Streater and Danette Maye Streater. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lilesville United Methodist Church or Savannah United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, both at P.O. Box 452, Lilesville, NC 28091 or The Danette Streater Endowment, NC Community Foundation, 4601 Six Forks Rd., Suite 524, Raleigh, NC 27609. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
