POLKTON - Mrs. Mae Gaddy Lee, age 92 of Polkton, died Monday, August 4, 2014 at her home. Funeral services will be 11:00am Thursday August, 7, 2014 at Wightman United Methodist Church with Reverend Dale Bost officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro and other times at the home. She was born on September 12, 1921 in Union County, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Henry Tyler and Eunice Gaddy. She was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church. For many years she worked alongside her husband on their farm and loved vegetable gardening. She later worked at Stanly Knitting Mills. Mrs. Lee was famous for her wonderful cooking and baking, and she enjoyed baking cakes and pies to give to others and to donate to charity events. She was also well known for her lovely quilts and her sewing talents, winning statewide contests for the beautiful dresses she made by hand, and was affectionately known in the community as Aunt Mae. Survivors include: her son, Michael Dale Lee of Norwood, and her daughter and son-in-law Charis and Marc Acree of LaGrange, GA; grandchildren, Greg and Beth Lee of Polkton, Teddy and Tonya Huneycutt of New Salem, Ricky and Esta Busby of Avondale Estates, GA, Curtis and Marisa Shields of Charlotte, and Claire Acree of Dallas, TX; great-grandchildren, Ashton and Jordan Lee, Leah, Brooke, and Hailee Huneycutt, and Florence, Anne Harrell, and Eliza Busby; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille Dean of Monroe,Nell and Leroy Simpson of Monroe, Martha and Jack Coley of Marshville, brother and sisters-in-law Japp and Polly Gaddy of Marshville and Peggy Gaddy of New Salem; a special family member, Brenda Wright of Lilesville, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Benton Mills Lee, her sisters Lottie Parker and Rachel Haigler, and her brothers H.T Gaddy and Ted Gaddy. Flowers are accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Wightman United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 282 Gaddys Ferry Road, Polkton, NC 28135.
