Margaret "Peggy" Ratliff Harwood, 69, of Dandridge, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2018.
Peggy was born to the late William Ratliff and Margaret Ratliff on February 23, 1949 outside of Wadesboro, North Carolina where she grew up on a farm. In 1969 she married the love of her life, Richard Harwood. After graduating from The University of North Carolina, Charlotte with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, she pursued a career in education. She was loved by her students as a teacher for 10 years at Newport Grammar School, by her dear friends at Southside Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, and by her fellow teachers at the retired teachers association.
Peggy is survived by husband of 48 years, Richard Harwood; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Mike Shamblin; son and daughter-in-law, David and Melissa Harwood; her beloved grandchildren, Zachary Turner, Abby Shamblin, Rachel Shamblin and Anna Harwood; sister-in-law, Zondra Leazer; and stepmother, Gracie Ratliff. She also leaves behind many more dear friends and relatives.
Services will be provided by Manes Funeral Home on Sunday, March 18, 2018. The family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Union Cemetery.
