Margaret Horne McManus

WADESBORO - Mrs. Margaret Horne James McManus, 90, died Monday, March 20, 2017 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC. Funeral services will be 2:00pm, Friday, March 24, 2017 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Dr. Harry Workman officiating. Interment will follow in the Horne Family Cemetery in Peachland. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Margaret was born June 23, 1926 in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late Raymond Horne and the late Adie Medlin Horne. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday school class and was active in Woodmen of the World. She was a prolific writer and was Valedictorian of her high school class at Peachland High School. Surviving are her husband, Mack McManus of the home; her children, Sherry (Tom) Yarbrough of Myrtle Beach, SC, Cindy Jones of Charlotte and Jeff (Joanie) James of Albemarle; her grandchildren, Jason (Dana) Yarbrough and Martin Knotts both of Charlotte, Amanda Teal of Albemarle, Jessica Yarbrough of California and Chris Sossamon of Whiteville and 8 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, James, Boyce and Wilburn Horne, Vera Hasty and Audrey Sinclair. Margaret will be remembered most for her love of flowers and shared them with people everywhere. Her love and compassion for the elderly resulted in volunteer work at the nursing homes and much visitation with the residents. Her other hobbies included, reading, dancing and also sharing vegetables from her garden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
