Marguerite Ann Ellis

Ansonville, NC — Ms. Marguerite Ann Ellis, 92, of Ansonville, NC formerly of Lumberton, NC passed away Saturday September 7, 2024. 

Marguerite was born in Robeson County on March 7, 1932, to the late Robert Lee Ellis and Gladys Phipps Ellis. 

Prior to moving to Ansonville, she was a member of East Lumberton Baptist Church where she enjoyed times shared with her church family. She loved flowers and looked forward to times when she could work outside in the yard. 

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister aunt and a friend. She dearly loved her family and will be missed by all who loved her. 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister & brothers, Stella Pittman of Grafton, VA, Robert (Bob) Lee Ellis, Jr. of Gadsden, AL., and Eldon (Elt) Ellis of Lumberton NC. 

Those who are left to cherish her memory are her children, daughter Gail Pope (Dave) of Ansonville, NC and son Mark Herring of Charlotte, NC. Her grandchildren, Regina Pope Matthews, David Pope Jr of Ansonville, NC and Marissa Herring of Lumberton, NC. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Brittany Carpenter Gravitte, Amanda Carpenter Chisholm, Harlee Matthews, Keeley Pope Sullivan, Rieley Pope and Jaxon Bass; and her 5 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and loved ones. 

Also surviving are her sisters, Jean Pope of Thomasville, AL., Janice (Jan) Nealy of Hampton, VA., Karon (Kay) Reaves of Gastonia, NC and Gray Ellis Singletary of Harrisonville, MO. 

The family will greet friends from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Leavitt Funeral Home, 2036 Morven Road, Wadesboro with the service following in the chapel, The Rev. Curtis Laney will officiate. 

There will be a graveside service the following day Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Oak Ridge Cemetery 1019 W Broad St, St Paul’s, NC 28384.
