POLKTON - Mrs. Marie Walters Williams, 78, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Oakdale Baptist Church with Rev. Arnold Jackson, Rev. Tim Knotts and Rev. Tracy Hickson officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will greet friends Friday, August 9, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro and other times at the home.
Marie was born September 22, 1934 in Anson County, NC one of 10 children born to the late Lonnie Van Walters and the late Culie Helms Walters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Susie Braswell, J.V. Huneycutt, Travis, Bentford, Pervis, Yvonnie, Craig and Sherrill Walters.
She was a 1953 graduate of Polkton High School and had worked with Roses Five and Dime for 25 years. Following her employment with Roses, she worked for a few years with B.C. Moores and later Mauney's Food Mart, retiring then after working more than 10 years there.
Marie was a faithful and long-time member of Oakdale Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years for the Primary Class and more recently for the Adult Class.
Marie married Claude Lee Williams, Jr. in September of 1998 following a courtship of more than 40 years.
Surviving are her husband, Claude 'June' Williams of the home; her sister, Nellie Dutton of Wadesboro and her nieces and nephews and their families.
