Marion E. "Whitey" Watts, 91, of Cary, North Carolina, and formerly of Cheraw, South Carolina passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018. He was born in Mt. Croghan, South Carolina on May 15, 1927, the son of Christine and Anthony B. Watts.
Mr. Watts was a graduate of Mt. Croghan High School and attended Wingate College in North Carolina and graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina. Whitey served in the Air Force and Army during the Korean War Era and was stationed in Germany. After working in Finance, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service where he retired after 38 years of service in Cheraw, South Carolina. Whitey loved people, the coast, travel, nature, gardening, cars, planes and reading.
Along with his parents, Mr. Watts was predeceased by his special childhood friend and mentor, Vane Rivers and three sisters: Lena W. Watson and husband, Orren, formerly of Mt. Croghan, SC, Louvenia W. Moore and husband, Roy, formerly of Wadesboro, NC and Sara W. Foit and husband, Bill, formerly of Amsterdam, Ohio; his nephews, Harold Moore, formerly of Wadesboro, NC and Joe Foit, formerly of Amsterdam, Ohio.
Mr. Watts leaves behind his niece, Dianne M. Springer and her husband, Bill, of Cary. He is also survived by a niece, Florence F. Nader and nephew Frank Foit of Ohio and their families, as well as a number of great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews. Whitey also leaves behind many friends at Woodland Terrace Retirement Community where he resided for the last two years. Whitey enjoyed many Sunday afternoon drives exploring the area in search of still existing countryside and enjoying nature in the area. His caring and friendly personality will be missed by many.
A graveside service will be at 3 Oclock Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery, Ruby, SC. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
