LILESVILLE – On Saturday, April 27, 2024, Mr. Mark Lavon Lawhon, 60, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at North Wadesboro Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Helms and Mike Welch officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Church Cemetery in Morven.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at North Wadesboro Baptist Church and other times at the home.
Mark was born May 16, 1963, in Richmond County, NC and was a son of Huss Edward “Buster” Lawhon and the late Shirley Price Hough. He was a graduate of Bowman High School.
He had a strong work ethic, having worked with W.R. Bonsal Company in Lilesville for 20 years, for Caterpillar in Monroe and was currently employed with the North Carolina Department of Transportation for the last 17 years.
Mark had a strong faith in the Lord, and he lived that faith before his family and fellow man. He always took advantage of sharing the goodness of God with anyone he came in contact with, always trying to win another soul for the kingdom. He was a faithful member of North Wadesboro Baptist Church, where he has served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, youth director and with the kitchen committee.
He also enjoyed tinkering on projects in his shop at home, drag racing, riding motorcycles, breakfast on Saturdays with his dad, his animals, being at home and mostly spending time with his family, playing with the grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Donna “Cookie” Adams Lawhon; his children, Elizabeth Lawhon Brown and husband, Ajay of Lilesville and Dustin Edward Lawhon and wife, Olivia of Polkton; his grandchildren, Alexis Brown and Valerie Brown; his father, Buster Lawhon of Lilesville; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Margaret and Donnie Adams of Morven; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Joel Wright of Peachland and his nieces and nephews and their families.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Wadesboro Baptist Church, P.O. Box 764, Wadesboro, NC 28170 or to Shiloh Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Sydney Pratt, 6249 Pit Rd., Morven, NC 28119.
