LILESVILLE - Mrs. Martha Allen Goodwin, 67, died Monday, September 21, 2015 at her home.
Funeral services will be 3:00pm Thursday, September 24, 2015 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Teddy Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in Lilesville Cemetery.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Martha was born September 7, 1948 in Anson County, NC a daughter of Mary Ward Allen Norris and the late Beverly Young Allen.
She was a graduate of Anson High School and she, along with her husband, owned and operated Goodwin's Rentals and Buddy Goodwin's Store. She also worked for a number of years at Coffing Hoists and Blue Bird Buildings.
Martha was a long-time member of Lilesville Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She dearly loved and appreciated her church family. She enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with others in the community, as well as, sending cards to encourage others going through difficult times. She also enjoyed fishing at the beach and locally and was very active in the lives of her nieces and nephews.
Surviving are her husband, of nearly 49 years, Walter Alexander 'Buddy' Goodwin of the home; her mother, Mary Norris of Lilesville; her sisters and brother, Mary Beverly Allen Hathcock of Matthews and Suzanne Allen (Wayne) LaBroad of Midland, John (Sue) Norris of Edenton, Connie Norris (Travis) Williford of Fuquay-Varina; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beverly G. Freeman and Mike (Debbie) Goodwin both of Lilesville, Millie G. (Jerry) Burkette of Mt. Pleasant, Ellen G. (Freddy) Goodwin of Holden Beach, Donnie Goodwin of Rockingham and Ann Goodwin of Monroe; and her nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her sons, Walter Alexander 'Alex' Goodwin, Jr. and Eric Allen Goodwin, step-father, James A. 'Bud' Norris, brother, James David Norris and brothers-in-law, Kress Goodwin, William 'Bill' Wrenn, Ted Hathcock and Jim Freeman.
