WADESBORO – On Friday, October 11, 2024, Mr. Marvin C. “Cooter” Deese, 76, passed away peacefully at Richmond County Hospice Haven in Rockingham with his beloved daughter and his sister-in-law at his bedside.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, October 18, 2024, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home and other times at his home.
Cooter was born June 6, 1948, in Anson County and was the youngest child of the late Bennett Wilson Deese and the late Bessie Simpson Deese. He was a 1967 graduate of Wadesboro High School, which was the last graduating class there. Following graduation he was drafted to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Following an honorable discharge from the military, he returned home to Wadesboro and worked in home construction for nearly 20 years. His construction knowledge was beneficial as he later became employed in Anson County Government, working as building inspector. During this time he held four level three certifications. He retired with 20 years of service.
Cooter enjoyed times shared with is family and friends, especially outings to Papa Joes in Wadesboro to catch up with his friends. He liked to keep his finger on the pulse of anything going on in Anson County or the Town of Wadesboro.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Leslie Deese of Wadesboro; his brother and sister-in-law, Troy and Patricia Deese of Wadesboro; his sisters-in-law, Tobitha Deese of Charlotte and Vella Deese of Monroe and his nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, Maurice Deese, Earl Deese, Vernon Deese, Buford Deese and Shirley Bailey.
The family is most grateful to the staff at Atrium Health Anson and Atrium Health Union for all they did for him and most recently the staff of Richmond County Hospice and Hospice Haven for the way in which they cared for him during his final weeks. A special thank you to Anthony Ratliff with Anson Rescue and Anson EMS and their staffs for being there for him.
