LILESVILLE - Mrs. Mary Virginia Bowman Dean, 90, died Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Funeral services will be 3:30pm Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Lilesville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Lilesville Cemetery. The family will greet friends Saturday from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro and other times at the home. Mary Virginia was born March 24, 1922 in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late Thomas Robinson Bowman and the late Mary Sue King Bowman. She was retired from Anson County Schools having worked as a teacher's assistant at Lilesville Elementary for 18 years. She loved Lilesville and has served on the Lilesville Town Council and as Mayor Pro Tem. She was a life-long member of Lilesville United Methodist Church. Music was one of her great loves and she often played the piano for the nursing home residents in Anson County. Surviving are her children, Gilbert C. (Frances) Dean, Jr. of N. Charleston, SC, James Dean, Carolyn (Nelson) Ingram and Ken Dean all of Lilesville, Betty Jean (Don) Bowers of Norwood and Charles ( special friend, Rita) Dean of Charleston, SC; her grandchildren, Trey Dean, Shannon Mizell, James Dean, Jr., Stan Dean, Mike Ingram, Chad Bowers, Ryan Bowers, Meredith Howell, Erica Dean and Jessica Dean; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Frances Bowman of Lilesville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert C. Dean, a grandson, Scottie Dean, an infant grandson and by her only brother, King Bowman.
