Mary Elizabeth Luther Crawford

LILESVILLE – Mary Elizabeth Luther Crawford, 73, passed way on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at UNC Rockingham Health in Eden, NC. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Saturday, December 5, 2020 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Walden officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the home of her niece, Tammy Oakley, 1505 Martin Farm Rd., Madison, NC. Mary Elizabeth was born July 7, 1947 in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late James Solomon Luther and the late Lamer Mae Previtte Luther. She was a 1965 graduate of Anson High School and was a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church. She worked as a telecommunicator with Anson County 911 with more than 20 years. Those left to cherish her memories are her nieces, who she referred to as “her girls”, Debbie Joyce (Dwayne) of Mayodan, Tammy Oakley (Gabe) of Madison and Becky Lemons (Scott) of Stoneville; her great-nieces and nephew, Kayla Simmons (Travis) and Allison Dunlap (Mason) both of Stoneville,, Andrea Fullerton (Joel) of Eden, Hannah Oakley of Madison and Preston Joyce of Mayodan; her great-great-nephews and niece, T.J., Hazel and Maxton; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Rose of Waco, KY; her step-daughter, Denise Darrow of Pennsylvania and her family; and her cousins and their families and her family with Anson County 911. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sammy Arvel Crawford, her brother, James Dewey Luther and her niece, Lorrie Dunlap. One of her co-workers said it best, “Ms Mary passed away this morning. She was the sweetest, meanest, kindest, grumpiest, patient most impatient person I know. She loved a good joke, had a great sense of humor. She was very matter of fact, tell it like it was, no feelings spared. But had the sweetest most caring words when needed. Beyond any doubt she was the most selfless, giving generous person I know. She would have given her last penny to a total stranger in need. She will truly be missed but she is no longer sick. I’m not sad today because she would sternly tell me to suck it up.” In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gum Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Sarah Harrington, 1364 Hailey's Ferry Rd., Lilesville, NC 28091. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.leavittfh.com
