Mary Ellen "Punk" Harrington Russell

Polkton – Mrs. Mary Ellen Harrington “Punk” Russell, age 77, went home to be with her beloved son, John Edward, on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, while a patient at Atrium Health Union.

Graveside services will be 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Anson Memorial Park.

Born in Anson county on January 5, 1944, Punk was the only child of Ed G. and Fannie Howard Harrington. She attended public schools and later worked in the textile industry eventually retiring from Hornwood, Inc.

Punk enjoyed digging around the yard, planting and admiring her flowers. She was an animal lover at heart and particularly enjoyed her cats Sassy Marie, Hot Mama and Abilene. But what Punk will best be remembered for is her tremendous love and devotion to her special needs son, John Edward.

Survivors include two aunts, Peg Edwards of Charlotte and Betty Rose Taylor of Wadesboro; former brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ervin & Phyllis Thompson of Candor; special friends, Nikki Armfield of Polkton and Helen Galliher of Ansonville; and many cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, Punk was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Russell and her beloved son, John Edward Russell.
