Mary Ward Allen Norris

Lilesville - Mrs. Mary Ward Allen Norris, 91, on Saturday, April 1, 2017, heard those welcome words of her Savior, Well done, good and faithful servant: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord while in the loving comfort of her family at her daughters home in Midland where she has resided for the last three and half years. Born August 1, 1925, Mary was the loving daughter of H.A. and Flossie Liles Ward. She graduated from Lilesville High School and went on to graduate from Womens College in Greensboro with a business degree. Over the course of a long and productive career, Mary managed offices for Burlington Industries, The Bonsal Co., and Carolina Tire, Inc. It was in third grade that Mary met Bettie Elaine Wall and together, they became lifelong best friends. They went through school together and were college roommates before returning to the community and settling down to work, marriage, and raising families. Their close bond remained until Bettie Elaine Davidsons death in 2013. Mary married the first true love of her life, Beverly B.Y.Allen. Together they raised three wonderful girls and enjoyed life to the fullest until Beverlys untimely death. Later, Mary would meet, fall in love with, and then marry the last love of her life, James A. Bud Norris. Bud and Mary had many happy years together until Buds death in 2013. More affectionately known as Me-Ma, Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor and friend. She loved animals of all kinds, flowers - especially roses, sweet eats - especially chocolates, and all things PINK! When life or work didnt always go her way, she was quick to express her personal motto of You just have to POWER THROUGH IT! Survivors include her children, Mary Beverly Allen Hathcock of Matthews, and Suzanne Allen (Wayne) LaBroad of Midland; Connie N. (Travis) Williford of Fuquay-Varina, and John (Sue) Norris of Edenton; a son-in-law, Walter Buddy Goodwin of Lilesville; grandchildren, Chris Childress, Jeff Childs (Steve), Shawn (Steve) McStravick, Dustin Wrenn, Chelsea Wrenn (Patrick) McLaughlin, Shelly (Joel) Snipes, Aubrey Jones, Morgan Williford, Adam Williford, Jacqueline Norris, Candace (Dusty) Peaden, and Chasity (Jason) Hatchell; great-grandchildren, Kristi Collins, Jen Hopkins, Angela Childress, Kian McStravick, Hunter McLaughlin, Blaine Snipes, Justin Jones, Kaitlyn Jones, Kayleigh Hatchell, Wesley Hatchell, and Landen Hatchell; and her faithful four-legged best friend and fur-baby, Sassy. In addition to her parents and both her husbands, Mary was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Allen Goodwin, son, James David Norris, two grandsons, Alex and Eric Goodwin, and two sons-in-law, William Bill Wrenn and Ted Hathcock. Celebration of Life services will be 2:00PM Wednesday at Lilesville Baptist Church, 118 Camden Street, Lilesville, NC, where Mary was a proud lifelong member. The family will greet friends in the church prior to services beginning at 1:00PM. Interment will follow in Lilesville Cemetery. The family wishes to offer thanks and praise to caregiver and Chief Field Trip planner and partner Shelly Snipes and also to Cindy Mills for their tender loving care. In keeping with her love of pets, the family asks that you consider memorials to Marys special animal friends at the Anson County Animal Shelter, Attn: Maureen Lett, 7257 Hwy 74, Polkton, NC 28135. To our friend Mary we say, many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Proverbs 31:29.
